Guilt-Free Chocolate...Is That Even Possible?
Guilt Free Chocolate..Is That Even Possible?
You may have noticed that all Elements Truffles products are missing one key ingredient typically associated with chocolate. That’s right - nowhere on the list of ingredients will you find the word sugar (except on the nutrition label, of course).
Now, before you report Elements for culinary blasphemy, give us a minute to explain.
Because we are committed to producing products that elevate health, all of our chocolate is free from refined sugar and artificial sweeteners. According to Ayurveda, the ancient Indian science of life, the highly-processed nature of refined sugar increases the Kapha dosha, creates sluggishness in the body, and should generally be avoided. And according to modern science, the brain processes refined sugar like a drug, causing us to crave more and more and more. So basically, both the ancient and modern world tell us to walk (run!) away from refined sugar.
Luckily, we do not need refined sugar to get the sweetness that we naturally crave! Because sweet is one of the 6 tastes in Ayurveda that constitute a balanced meal (along with spicy, bitter, astringent, salty, and sour), naturally-sweetened products like Elements Truffles are a welcome and healthy addition to life, when consumed in moderation. Each serving contains only 5 grams of sugar, which is a much lower glycemic index than most chocolates and thus protects against a spike in blood sugar that the inevitable crash that follows.
“Wait. Backup - did you just say 5 grams of sugar?”
That’s right! 5. Grams. Of. sugar. in.a.bar.of.chocolate. No, you didn’t die and go to heaven. You are just eating chocolate sweetened with organic honey. And because Ayurveda is an ecological philosophy that considers not only the healthy of the body but the health of the planet, our honey is locally sourced from hardworking honeybees in New Jersey. This means that our chocolate has a low carbon footprint and supports local food systems.
So go ahead - enjoy your Elements Truffles guilt-free, knowing that you will be buzzing with the high energy of local, organic, honey. (Buzz...get it? Honey puns!)
